Description
-
Bearing Integrity: At this grade, the internal ball bearings and races are often in near-new condition, with the original Japanese high-temp blue or tan grease still perfectly viscous.
-
Corrosion Resistance: Unlike parts sitting in coastal yards, Grade A units have minimal surface oxidation, ensuring the 4-bolt mounting flange sits perfectly flush against your axle beam.
Electronic Precision (Hybrid & VSC)
The 2018 Voxy is packed with electronics. The rear hub is the “eyes” for several systems:
-
Regenerative Braking (Hybrid models): The computer uses the hub’s speed data to decide how much electricity to put back into the battery when you brake. A cheap hub with a weak sensor will decrease your hybrid efficiency.
-
Stability Control: The 2018 Voxy is a tall vehicle; the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) relies on this hub to detect the slightest wheel slip to prevent tipping. An Ex-Japan OEM hub ensures this life-saving system communicates at factory speeds.
2WD vs. 4WD Mechanicals
-
ZRR80 (2WD): The hub is a “dead” unit (no drive axle goes through it). It is designed to be lightweight to help the Voxy achieve its impressive fuel economy.
-
ZRR85 (4WD): This version features a hollow, splined center to accommodate the rear driveshaft.
Performance Benefits
-
Vibration-Free Steer: Even though it’s a rear part, a faulty hub can cause a “shudder” felt through the floor. This Grade A unit restores the smooth, gliding feel the Voxy is known for.
-
Fuel Saving: By reducing rotational friction, this hub helps you maintain higher km/L figures, especially in the Hybrid (ZWR80) models.
