Description

The Toyota Auris is designed with a more feel than the standard Corolla, meaning its suspension is tuned to be slightly firmer and more responsive.  An Ex-Japan original shock allows you to maintain that premium ride quality without the high cost of brand-new units from the dealership.

The “Ex-Japan” Quality Standard

Because the Auris is often driven on smooth, high-quality roads in Japan, used “Ex-Japan” parts are highly sought after.

  • Twin-Tube Gas Design: These shocks use a nitrogen-gas-charged system that prevents oil cavitation (foaming). This ensures that the shock doesn’t “fade” or become soft during a long trip on a hot day.

  • OEM Metallurgy: Unlike “budget” new aftermarket shocks which can be too stiff or leak within months, genuine Toyota shocks (often manufactured by KYB or Tokico) use high-grade steel shafts that resist pitting and scarring.

  • Bushings & Seals: Grade-A Ex-Japan units usually come with their original rubber mounting bushings still in pliable, healthy condition, saving you the extra cost of buying separate bushes.

Performance & Handling

  1. Ride Stability: Worn shocks make the Auris feel “floaty” or unstable, especially in crosswinds. These OEM replacements restore the “planted” feeling on the highway.

  2. Hybrid Compatibility: If you drive an Auris Hybrid (ZWE186), having healthy shocks is critical for the Regenerative Braking system to work efficiently. Proper damping ensures the wheels maintain consistent contact with the road during energy recovery.

  3. Braking Distance: Replacing a weak shock can shorten your emergency braking distance by keeping the car’s weight distributed evenly across all four tires.
